MY ICT PROFILE: MOKHUDU MACHABA

Introduction

 

 I am Mokhudu Cynthia Machaba, mother to my four beautiful kids. I started my teaching career studying at Soweto College of Education in 1996. After completion in 1998 I couldn’t get a post so I started a crèche in 2001, I operated for two years under my guidance. In 2003 I got a temporary post at Little Bedfordview primary, while I was there Telkom donated computers where teachers were encouraged ICT skills in classroom, I helped them since I did not have credentials to be part of the program. In 2009 I met with Avuxeni computer academy which trained teachers through CozaCares within Mogodumo Circuit were I was working at Mahlogedi Secondary school. That’s where my love for ICT was nourished

 

ICT Integration and Co-ordination within my peers

 

ICT Coordinator for Limpopo ICT. I am very pleased to be selected as MIEExpert15, I have been working very hard in the transformation of our education system which is already revolutionized. South Africa has a very wonderful policy on education what is needed is implementation. Since 2009 I have been working on ICT both at school as well as for the community. Up to this point I have helped 101 community members acquire their valid certificates for computer literacy program. I have created a closed Facebook group called Limpopo ICT Teachers were I communicate, collaborate and share information with my colleagues. It has been a great journey for me in ICT. I have presented in a number of national conferences namely:

1.      Schoolnetsa13 at the University of Free State on ICT Leadership in schools

2.      South African Basic Education Conference at the Emperors Palace, JHB presenting on Project Based Teaching

3.      EdTech Team Summit 2014 at Dainfern College and Jane Furse on Project Based Teaching

4.      E-schools Network Conference 2014 in Cape Town on Project Based Teaching and How the 21st Century Child Learns

5.      I trained this year at the SchoolNet conference in KZN on Using Apps to develop learning materials (CAPS related)

6.      I have presently trained more than 200 teachers around the country on ICT skills around the country in 6 Provinces that’s Limpopo, North West, Western Cape, KZN, Free State and Gauteng through School-Net and E-schools Network.

 

ICT Integration in the classroom

 

I started with the projects that I integrated ICT in my lessons with the learners in the classrooms. Our first project was Paper doll for Creative Arts. I developed a paper on Project based teaching which I am using in my classroom to integrate almost all subject with our Marula project.

I was also selected by Microsoft in Education as the Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert to be amongst 300 educators around the world to attend the E2 Global Educator Exchange in USA Redmond at the Microsoft campus where my group which comprised of Germany, Czech Republic, Canada and Vietnam. The selection was made after uploading a learning activity that you did with the learners in the classroom after using educational apps to enhance teaching and learning. In our group we were expected to design a learning activity which will be relevant to learners around the world. Our team got runner up position on Overall Achievement (Best Achievement)

My learners in the classroom are able to use educational apps on their learning activities though we are struggling since we do not have a proper lab we using what we have to integrate ICT in the classroom.

Through my ICT integration in the Classroom I got an ISPA Super Teacher Award 2013

 

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

 

1.      I have Initiated community outreach program on Computer Literacy program where more than 200 community members have been trained and awarded qualifications around Polokwane area
